Restored period facade in South West London

Stone and brick restoration in South West London

Much of our work sits between the river and the commons - stucco terraces in Chelsea and Pimlico, yellow stock elevations around Vauxhall and Battersea, and larger detached houses out towards Wimbledon.

Each of those has its own habits. Chelsea and Kensington frontages are usually stucco over brick, where cracked or hollow render and worn mouldings are the first thing to go. South of the river, the stock brick is softer and takes badly to cement pointing, so repairs are made in lime and the face cleaned carefully rather than aggressively.

We work on listed and conservation-area buildings throughout the boroughs below, and we are happy to look at a facade from a few photographs before anyone comes out to site.

Repointing across Chelsea, Battersea and Clapham

Cement pointing raked out by hand and replaced in a lime mortar matched to the original mix, with the joint profile - flush, penny roll, weather struck or tuck - kept true to the building.

Stone cleaning

Portland and Bath stone frontages cleaned with low-pressure, conservation-grade systems that lift soiling and carbon without opening up the face of the stone.

Brick cleaning

Soft yellow stock brick south of the river needs a gentle approach. Paint, graffiti, moss and pollution removed without scarring the brick or bleaching the mortar.
