Stone & brick cleaning

Stone & brick cleaning

Cleaning is the first and most important step in any restoration project. It lifts decades of pollution back off the facade, and it is the only way to see the true condition of the stone and brick underneath before anything else is specified. Used wrongly, cleaning equipment does permanent damage - which is why the method is chosen for the substrate, never the other way round. We clean commercially and residentially across London and the home counties: hospitals, offices, churches and historic buildings through to stucco and Victorian houses.

What we clean

Stone cleaning

Portland, Bath, York, limestone, marble and granite - cleaned back without opening the surface.

Brick cleaning

Soot, sulphation and pollution lifted from stocks, gaults and reds to reveal the original colour.

Paint removal

Masonry paint, wax and plastic coatings taken off brick and stone without chemical staining.

Graffiti removal

Rapid response on tagged brick, stone and concrete, including anti-graffiti protection.

Moss & algae removal

Biological growth and spores killed off at the root, slowing regrowth without harsh chemicals.

Landmark cleaning

Churches, monuments, civic and listed buildings cleaned under conservation-led methodology.

Facade restoration

Cleaning carried through into repair - stonework, mouldings and pointing put right afterwards.

TORIK system
01

TORIK system

TORIK is a two-part system: a diesel burner that raises water to around 150°C and an electric pump that drives it through a lance as a controlled stream of superheated water and steam. The operator has full control of both temperature and pressure, so the setting is dialled to the substrate rather than the substrate taking whatever the machine gives it.

A ceramic nozzle forms a precise 15° to 25° cleaning edge, which lets the same machine work broadly across an elevation and tightly around carved detail, mouldings and ornamental sections.

It is chemical free and uses very little water, so the wall dries quickly. Paired with a TAVEC 201 gel stripper it takes off masonry paint, bitumen, oil, grease and graffiti, and it is the system we reach for on heavier soiling and carbon sulphation - the hard black crusts that build up on London facades.

DOFF system

DOFF cleaning uses no chemicals at all. Water is heated to 150°C at the point it leaves the system and applied to the stone or brick at low pressure and low volume - gentle on the substrate, but with results that are hard to match any other way.

It is the right system for algae, moss and other biological spores: the heat kills growth at the root, which reduces regrowth and removes the need for chemical treatment afterwards.

The same system also lifts paint and wax coatings - most oil and plastic types - along with graffiti, chewing gum, bitumen, oil and grease.
